Slax Linux 12.2.0 is a lightweight, portable GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian 12.2, featuring the Fluxbox desktop environment and the APT package manager. This virtual machine image is available on OpenIaaS and "VM Instances", allowing you to explore Linux, carry out maintenance tasks or set up a compact working environment.
Overview
Slax Linux 12.2.0 is a compact GNU/Linux distribution based on Debian 12.2. Originally designed to run in Live mode from a USB stick or a CD/DVD without requiring a permanent installation, it offers a lightweight graphical environment. This Cloud Temple offering provides a virtual machine image in XVA format, which can be deployed on OpenIaaS and "VM Instances".
Key features and benefits:
- A lightweight Fluxbox desktop environment, featuring a file manager, terminal, text editor and calculator.
- Managing network connections using the built-in tools.
- Installing additional software using APT, which manages dependencies for Debian packages.
- Live USB/CD/DVD functionality for the official distribution; changes are saved to a compatible writable medium when persistence is enabled.
- A compact environment for exploring Linux, carrying out maintenance tasks and setting up temporary workstations.
System requirements:
- A processor and virtualisation environment compatible with the XVA image architecture.
- Memory and storage resources tailored to the applications being used. The generic minimum specified by Slax is 128 MB of RAM for desktop use; allow for more if using modern applications. This figure does not constitute a guaranteed specification for this VM.
- An internet connection is recommended for installing software and downloading updates.
- For Live use outside this VM package: a USB stick or other compatible bootable medium.
