40 %: That's the growth of AWS over the last 12 months! AWS is maintaining the lead it had when it first entered this market. And there's more to come!

How can such growth be explained?

The Cloud sectors with the strongest growth in France are IaaS and PaaS. SaaS is lagging behind in terms of growth. The growth of the PaaS market can be explained by the arrival of the container, which makes it easier for companies to transpose their application development onto Cloud environments.

Today, all IaaS offerings come with the ability to create containers on VMs. AWS is positioned in this container market alongside Google and other players.

Growth, where do we stand?

We're a long way from reaching the end of this growth trend - in fact, we're in the early stages! According to a Google study, only 5% of businesses have their IT assets in the public cloud. The technology is no longer at the heart of the discussions, it has largely gained credibility over the years. The obstacles to adoption are more of a cultural nature: "Am I capable of putting my assets and data outside my walls? Over the past 2 years, a lot of companies have taken the plunge, and we can imagine that 2018-19 will be the year when companies really get going.

New players to watch!

We should also note the emergence of players in Asia, such as Alibaba! They're not on the same level as AWS yet, but China has been very protective of American technologies (they have their own search engine, their own cloud, and they've developed major players capable of competing with the Americans in their own areas), which means that we can expect a battle between the 2 blocs in these areas that will be very interesting to follow.

Obstacles remain

Technology is no longer a cause for concern, but one question predominates: "Am I capable of migrating my IT assets and data to the public cloud?

Today's businesses have more and more IT skills, but decision-makers often don't have access to all the knowledge they need for business intelligence, especially as the press is still pushing an alarming vision of the Cloud.
